These images are from a collaborative project I did last year with fellow creatives: Rachel Penfold, Beck Banks and Sasha Ray and show the work we created together whilst working with the the Whitworth Art Gallery. This work we produced was all part of brief to create a product inspired by the Whitworth Gallery and its park and gardens, which they would want to sell in their gallery shop. This product was also to be created as part of an exhibition displayed at the Craft and Design Centre, which was part of the Manchester School of Arts annually Unit X Festival. The product that we produced to be sold in the gallery's shop, was inspired by the Whitworth's parks, gardens and by their community GROW project, which they advertise as all being helpful with people's well being and aid with mindfulness.  With this product we came up with, we aimed at further promoting the gallery's ethos's around mindfulness and well being , and as such took the  form of  a D.I.Y  necklace kit, which people would take away not only as a souvenir of their trip to the gallery, park and gardens but also as product that would help them both learn a new skill (crochet) or develop further crochet skills  and would also give them a chance to make something, which in the process would give them some time to relax and boost their mental well being. We also promoted the idea that these kits could be part of mindful and well being workshops which the gallery could host, where people would make new friends and learn a new skill. These kits would contain everything people would need to create a beautiful necklace: necklace cord, a crochet hook, a pattern book (which would have different seed patterns which would alternate depending on what season these kits were being sold in i.e. spring - spring seed pods and spring colour palate seen above), jump rings, a slip cast crochet outer pod and yarn in seasonal colours.
